ALD Checker
The complete Dennison ALD Checker Capsule Collection brings together Balance, Gambit and Draw as a single set, presenting the three interpretations of the collection’s central study of geometry, contrast and light. Each begins with the same visual language of diamond pavé, deep black and precise geometry, yet arrives at a different expression.
A Study in Contrast
Balance divides the watch into two opposing halves, Gambit embraces the symmetry of the checkerboard, while Draw deliberately disrupts it through asymmetry. Together, the three pieces demonstrate how subtle changes in proportion and placement can completely transform a design.
More than decoration, the diamonds form part of the architecture of each watch. Their integration across both dial and case allows the Checker motif to move beyond a conventional dial treatment, making the entire watch part of the composition. Set against uninterrupted areas of black, brilliance is balanced by negative space, resulting in a collection that is graphic and expressive while retaining the restraint central to Dennison’s design language.
A Study in Contrast
The Checker Capsule Collection begins with a simple opposition: brilliance and darkness. Diamond pavé is placed against uninterrupted black to create compositions defined as much by negative space as by decoration.
Across Balance, Gambit and Draw, these two materials remain constant while their proportions and placement change, demonstrating how a restrained visual vocabulary can produce three distinctly different identities.
Geometry, Reconsidered
Each watch approaches geometry from a different perspective. Balance finds equilibrium through a clean horizontal division; Gambit introduces the four-part symmetry of the checkerboard; and Draw intentionally breaks that symmetry with an off-centre composition.
Seen together, the three watches form a progression from order to disruption, exploring the possibilities contained within a single graphic idea.
Beyond the Dial
The Checker concept extends beyond the dial and into the architecture of the watch itself. Diamond setting continues across the case, integrating Dennison’s signature ALD form into each composition rather than treating it simply as a frame.
The result is a collection in which case, dial, material and geometry are considered as one — transforming the entire watch into the canvas for the Checker design.
