ALD Dual Time “Carnaby Blue” Time+Tide Studio Edition

Created in collaboration with Time+Tide, the ALD Dual Time “Carnaby Blue” is a new interpretation of Dennison’s signature cushion case, pairing a mosaic blue mother-of pearl dial with the distinctive dual-time architecture of the ALD collection.

The edition takes its name and inspiration from London in the 1960s, a period when British fashion, music, graphic design and youth culture began to exert an influence far beyond the city itself. Carnaby Street became one of the symbols of this new creative confidence: expressive, colourful and increasingly unconcerned with the traditional boundaries between formal and casual dress.

At the centre of the watch is a marquetry dial constructed from individual fragments of blue mother-of-pearl. Each piece responds differently to changing light, moving between deep, almost inky blues and brighter flashes of turquoise, silver and pink. The fragmented construction gives the dial a graphic quality from a distance and reveals a much more intricate composition when viewed closely.

Mother-of-pearl is a natural material, meaning variations in tone, texture and reflection are inherent to every dial. No two examples are exactly alike. 
The dial is housed within Dennison’s polished stainless steel cushion case, measuring 35.6mm across, 37mm lug-to-lug and just 6.1mm in thickness. Its compact dimensions and low profile reference the proportions traditionally associated with dress watches, while the unconventional dial and dual time display give the watch a distinctly contemporary character.

The ALD Dual Time displays two independent time zones on a single dial. Rather than employing a conventional GMT mechanism, two Swiss Ronda 1032 quartz movements operate independently within the case, with each movement controlling its own set of hands. The result is both functional and graphic: two separate indications brought together within one composition.
Despite housing two movements, the case retains the slimness that defines the ALD collection. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while water resistance is rated to 30 metres.

A blue denim strap completes the edition, introducing a more relaxed material against the polished case and mother of pearl dial. The choice also references the changing language of British dress during the period that inspired the watch, when denim increasingly existed alongside tailoring rather than in opposition to it.
